Mission Statement
The Arkansas Employees Federal Credit Union, a financial cooperative owned and operated by its members, exists for the financial benefits of its members.

Our primary mission is to encourage savings and offer loans and other services at fair and reasonable rates while seeking to maintain long-term financial stability and safeguarding the assets of the members.

AEFCU History
Arkansas Employees Federal Credit Union was organized in May, 1939, as a state chartered credit union under the name Department of Labor Credit Union and was located in the Department of Labor office building on the State Capitol grounds. Membership eligibility was limited to those employees and public appointed officials of the Department of Labor.

In the late 70's, the Department of Labor changed their name to Arkansas Employment Security Department, and as a result the credit union changed their name to Arkansas Employment Security Federal Credit Union.

On November 16, 1982, credit union members voted to convert from a state chartered credit union to a federally chartered credit union. The two main reasons for converting were the limits set by the Arkansas Usury Law and limitations on special services such as share draft/checking accounts, ability to offer Share Certificates, and the use of certain terminology describing "banking" services. The Federal Credit Union Act required that the word "federal" be added into the name of the credit union to indicate that it was now a "federal credit union" (federally chartered and subject to the National Credit Union Administration). The credit union name was not Department of Labor Federal Credit Union.

In 1986, the name was again changed to Arkansas Employees Federal Credit Union, the name under which the credit union is now known.

Since 1986, numerous groups have been added to our field of membership expanding our service area and our ability to provide additional and improved services.

In 1988, the credit union purchased property at 306 Cross Street and relocated. In 1997, the building was renovated with the addition of a second floor and expansion of the lower floor. A new drive thru facility and safe deposit box area was provided for our members. A cash vault and book vault was also added to the facilities. Since 1983, there have been 25 employee or organization groups added to the field of membership.
